CSI lake OCT 2010

This time we decided to change things up a bit and instead of our standard - leave at 7PM and arrive at 12-2AM trip, we chose to leave at about 11PM and drive through the night to arrive at fishing time. It worked out OK but we were tuckered at the end of the day. We had arrived to find fresh snow with no tracks at the campsites at the end of the road, nor any footprints headed to the lake. A good sign. We did not see any other people here this trip. Just how we like it.

Here we are at the lake after a short 1/2 hour or so hike. This area is just so nice looking. It was a crisp but beautiful morning to be on the water.

You can see the sun just starting to peak over into the canyon.

We fished this lake hard and I only managed this one lone Brooke trout on a mini jig. He was a very nice Brook trout running about 12" with a very mature looking head. The Browns in this lake keep the Brooks from overpopulating and thus the brooks are usually on the nicer-than-normal side. The Browns are even nicer but we were not able to summon any this day. It was a long drive, a cold morning, and a hard day of fishing for just one fish, but it was still worth every hour, shiver, and cast.

Notice the black mouth and brilliant colors.

Here is a pic of where the main trail breaks off to the "back" trail. We took the back trail out towards the truck.

That evening we hit up Grant lake for no love. It was still a beauty of a day.
