Walker Lake. OCT 2011

This trip we decided we should try and get up to one of our favorite Brown trout lakes for a little fall fishing with hopes to catch some of the larger browns that can be had here. After arriving at 2AM at the trailhead, and making sure the cooler was being emptied at an acceptable rate for the next couple of hours, we decided that if we tried to go to sleep now, we would surely wake up late and get a later start on the next days fishing activities. With a unanimous decision we cracked another beer and waited for the sun. It started to just get light and we hit the trail with our headlamps. By the time we got to the water the headlamps were no longer necessary. We would spend the entire day here and leave back towards the truck at about 5PM. We were the first ones on the water and the last ones to leave. It was a good day. NOTE: If you fish this lake PLEASE release the browns when you can. They are not stocked here and can be fished out. DFG stocks this lake with rainbows so take them if you must.

First fish on a mini jig. A nice little rainbow to start off the day.

A little closer pic of the same fish. The fish in this lake are almost always healthy and strong. This fish (and all others) was released.

Typical of what it looks like in this area. Crystal clear water and air!

The first brown! He slammed a gold shimmer 506 Super Duper. This lure is slowly becoming my go to.

Nice healthy fish.

Notice the larger, more spread out spots on this smaller model that wound up hitting the same 506 Super Duper.

From the north side of the lake looking east.

If you circle the lake like we did you will cross paths with this monster. Its been crossed many times but is still a little tricky.

Here is Steve for a little reference.

Looking west from the southeast side of the lake. Bloody canyon is in the backround. I hear that there are some old cabins at the top.

Looking north from the south side.

Picked up this little monster on the south side just where the lake starts to get deeper. He hit this 506 Super Duper about 10" from shore. A couple photos and he is on his way. Live long and prosper my friend. We will be back for you one day.

Yeah baby!

That is my blood not his! Sharp teeth on the larger browns.

This is the south short near where the trail meets the water.

Things slowed down with the metal so back to some mini jigs and BENDO! Another healthy rainbow.

One more mini jig rainbow before calling it quits for the day. We fished hard for these fish.

The next morning we gave Grant lake a try. This lake is so huge that going in blind like we did is a daunting task. We have fished Grant twice and came up empty handed both times. I need to fish this lake with someone who is familiar with it. Its too big to just pull up a piece of shoreline and start slamming fish. We gave it a strikeless couple of hours before heading home. It was a nice day though!

They are hard to see, but there are 10+ deer in this pic. They crossed the 395 headed east right in front of us. We were the only vehicle around to see them. This is near the June Lake loop.

On the way home we turned off of 395 and headed down the old 395, or otherwise known as lower rock creek. It was a nice drive and it does not take you too far out of the way. The creek here is smallish but I am  fairly sure that there are fish here. Lower rock creek looks like it would take some work to fish.

Here is an in cab shot of Lower Rock Creek road, AKA, old hwy 395.
